The European Union does not recognize the results of the August 9 presidential election in Belarus.
This was stated by President of the European Council Charles Michel after an extraordinary video conference of EU leaders, according to the correspondent of "European Truth".
"We want to send a clear message: the EU is in solidarity with the Belarusian people, and we do not accept impunity. The August 9 elections were neither free nor fair and did not meet international standards. We do not recognize the results presented by the Belarusian authorities. The people of Belarus deserve better." said Michelle.
He called on the Belarusian authorities to avoid further violence against protesters.
"We call for an inclusive national dialogue. All parties, including third countries, must support this process. The EU fully supports the OSCE initiative," Michel said.
EU leaders also agreed to impose sanctions on those involved in violence and repression and election fraud.
